FAQs

  • Kromfohrlander Coat

The Kromfohrlander is born with one of two types of coat: rough (with beard) and smooth. Each coat type comes in some variations of coat length but the rough always has a beard. Most show exhibitors prefer the neat, 'already groomed' look of the rough with the scruffy face and legs and the shortest coat on the body.
Smooth coated Kromfohrlanders typically have a smooth face with feathering on the ears and body and a beautiful plumed tail. Very few smooth haired Kromfohrlanders are smooth and short all over.
It is common for the them to have rear dewclaws and flyaway ears, though neither trait will be of divisive concern in the American standard.

The color of the Kromi is white with tan to dark brown markings on the body and symmetrical markings on head. The breed's physical characteristics requires as centered a blaze as possible between the eyes.

  • Shedding

The Kromfohrlander typically sheds a couple of times a year and with regular sweeping or vacuuming it is very easy to keep the house clean.

  • Smelly

The Kromi coat, even though it is mostly white, is remarkably wash and wear. It stays clean, even if it has been playing in the dirt! They are widely known for not having a typical doggy smell, even when wet.

  • Living Arrangements

It wants to be with its 'people,' particularly its chosen 'special person.' Kromis enjoy being in the home, with the family, on the couch cushion or at your feet as you work. Your home should have a variety of dog beds in most rooms for the Kromi to lay on. If a crated, the Kromi is adaptable and will sleep in a crate, although it will not be happy. It is not in its nature to be independent or banished. Make sure you can deal with a little dog who really loves you and wants to be near.

  • Are they smart?

Yes, Kromfohrlanders are remarkably intelligent and highly trainable dogs. They excel in understanding commands and adapting to various tasks. However, they don't possess the intense drive seen in some breeds, which makes their training more relaxed and approachable. This combination of intelligence and moderate energy makes them adaptable and excellent companions for different lifestyles

  • Their size

The Kromi is medium-sized, 15 to 18 inches at the shoulder and 24 to 31 lbs.

  • Feeding

Kromfohrlanders can be quite varied when it comes to their eating habits. While some are known to have a poor appetite, others approach their meals with enthusiasm and exuberance. Providing balanced, high-quality food ensures that both picky eaters and those with hearty appetites are well-nourished.

  • Health

Issues include hyperkeratosis, von Willebrand's Disease, epilepsy, cystinuria, patellar luxation, and spondylosis. The dog typically has full dentition into adulthood (but may miss a few teeth after a while).

  • As the Kromfohrlander continues to win hearts across American homes, we’re learning more about their truly endearing personalities. Like all puppies, Kromis are full of energy and curiosity, often testing boundaries with playful nips, jumps, and climbs as they explore the world around them. They thrive best with reward-based training, responding eagerly to positive reinforcement and plenty of praise. With a little guidance and patience, they quickly learn the ropes and delight in the bond they share with their family.

Kromis absolutely *love* being with you. Their joyful, affectionate nature means they’ll often use their mouths like hands to gently get your attention, showing how much they want to be a part of everything you do. Their companionship is heartwarming, and they are always ready to share in the fun and love of family life.

As they grow through their puppyhood and adolescence, Kromis benefit from gentle, consistent guidance. Their temperament is wonderfully adaptable and focused, and they are deeply devoted to their families. Due to their high intelligence, they tend to assess new situations and individuals initially. When meeting new people, they prefer to proceed at their own pace. However, they quickly become affectionate and show others warmth once they feel at ease.

While they may bark occasionally, they’re generally not excessive barkers, and their love for digging is just part of their playful charm. A fenced yard is a great idea to ensure they have a safe and happy space to explore.
